Rick Hampton's Radio Career
Radio has been my Day Job for the last 25+ years. I was honored in "Who's Who in Media" for many Years in the 90's. I have done it all from starting out as the midday jock at KHOT with 15 minutes of training (first radio gig) to being the PD in Country and Talk stations (some even still exist) I've had fun at some GREAT Fresno area stations including KMAK, KFRE ,KNGS ,KRGO, KKTR ,KFRE-FM, KHOT, KNAX ,KKYS and others as well some other "Interesting" smaller market stations ones like ,KJUG KQIQ ,KJOP, KTIP and a couple of others . Like many in the radio biz I wanted to go "major Market" and I was on my way to LA as the midday Jock on K-Surf until 2 things happened 1)Pregnant wife (The baby is now a teen-AGGH) and 2) Sylmar Earthquake (Discovered both these facts the same day) (Thanks K-Surf, want my family on "Stable Ground" Gotta Go Have a nice day). So since 88 I have been one of the longest running Central San Joaquin Valley Air Personalities. I I had the opportunity to meet so many artists and got to know some of them quite well-I will miss that! .Most recently I was the Program Director for KTIP/Talk until the focus of the station deviated from my professional beliefs so it's time to give radio a rest and give college another chance (straight "A's"-So far). I've Worked with some of the greats and lived thru the losers. Thanks Charlie Scott, Bobby Martin, James Holley ,Kent Hopper, Bob Mitchell and More. Losers are to remain nameless in spite of overwhelming temptation. Am I out of Radio forever? .............Forever is a long time but for now it's GOD ,Family, College and Square Dance Calling.
